River Ithon, Llandrindod Wells – 09.07.2017
The Ithon is one of my favourite rivers to fish. Grayling, Trout and Chub a plenty, beautiful locations, plenty of features, and rarely fished. I toyed with the idea of fishing the Wye, but decided on the Ithon as i had not been there since the winter months. I drove 90 minutes to get there, then 15 minutes to get my clobber on and walk to the river. Where i arrived at the river looked beautiful, and almost instantly i saw a fish rising. First cast, a small red klinkhammer under the tree, fish on! A very small brownie of about 5 inches, but beautiful none the less.
I made the mistake of thinking that a fish on my first cast was going to result in a good evening of fishing. Little did i know that the further upstream i got, the less water and more weed there was. Plus a group of teenagers turned up and started throwing rocks right where i was casting my fly!
I continued on, but to no avail. A pretty disastrous trip if i do say so myself. Next time, I will check the water levels before i leave, if there is very little water, there will proabably be very little fish.
