Barnt Green Fishing Club
Barnt Green Fishing Club is one of the premier fishing clubs within the West Midlands. Formed in 1888 the club provides fly fishing in private gated waters, the object being to provide high quality trout fishing in attractive, rural and peaceful surroundings. No day tickets are available but members may invite guests to fish with them for payment of a small fee.
The fishing is managed by a committee drawn from the full membership and employs a full time keeper. The Club has its headquarters at Reservoir Cottage, Upper Bittell Reservoir, Cofton Church Lane, Coften Hackett, Birmingham B45 8BH
There are three trout waters. The largest is Lower Bittell Reservoir, a water of 23 acres with both bank and boat fishing. Four boats are provided free for the members.
The second water is Mill Shrub, 4 acres in size with ample bank fishing and one boat provided. Sonic probes are installed on both these waters in order to destroy water borne algae and promote improved water clarity.
The Club has two other waters, Upper Bittell Reservoir and Lower Arrow Pool which are both mixed coarse fisheries.
Natural England has designated the Upper and Lower Bittell Reservoirs as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). These reservoirs together form the largest area of open water in North Worcester and represent one of the most important sites in the West Midlands for the passage of waterfowl. To this end the Club has set up a Catchment Management Group who work closely with the Government Agencies and neighbouring land owners to monitor water quality and enhance the biodiversity of the site and surrounding area. The Club has recently received an award for this achievement.
